If, like me, you have been on maternity leave and don’t want to go back to work- don’t panic! There are lots of ways to earn money from home, and you can get started right now.
All you need to get started with any of these is an internet connection, and some can even be done from your phone!
So without further ado, let’s get stuck into what you came here for…
Ways to Earn Money from Home: eBay
ebay is my personal favourite. In my opinion its one of the best ways to earn money from home, and absolutely anyone can do it! It’s free to set up a seller account with eBay and there is a mobile app that you can use on your phone or tablet to make things even easier. Just snap a photo with your phone, write a title and description for your listing, set your price, and you’re ready to go.
You can start by selling some of your own things that you don’t want/need anymore, and once you’re comfortable with that you can start reselling! You can pick up bargains in the sale or at charity shops, boot sales, and auctions, and then sell them for a profit!
Freelancing with People Per Hour
Freelancing websites like People Per Hour and Upwork often get a bad rep, this is because typically they are full of low paying jobs. HOWEVER… There are people looking for more skilled professionals to work with at higher rates, you just need to keep your eyes peeled. In fact, People Per Hour is where I found two of my best freelance writing clients who I am still working with now! In conclusion, I would definitely recommend it to anyone who’s getting started as a freelancer.
It’s free to sign up with PPH, and if you give it a try using my referral link you will get £30 of FREE credit to use on the site, so if you have anything you need doing (logo created for your blog, photo editing, portrait of your dog etc.) now’s your chance.
Surveys and Market Research
I don’t usually recommend surveys to anyone who wants to make a living online, but there are two sites that I would recommend:
Prolific Academic – This is a paid surveys site with short, easy to complete surveys, and pay is usually between £5-£15 per hour, paid per survey. The last survey I did paid me £1, and took 5 minutes of my time, If you do one or two of these a day it adds up to a nice little bit of extra money at the end of the month to treat yourself with, and they are so short that you can usually do them in advert breaks while you are watching TV. You can cash out from £5.
I also use TakePart In Research, which are larger research projects, but usually very well paid. The last one I did was a one hour phone chat which paid me £50 by paypal, and some research projects pay up to £150, not bad eh?
20Cogs
20Cogs is a website where you complete 20 tasks – usually signing up for a trial of a product or service. You are paid for completion of each task, and once you have completed all 20 tasks you can cash out. The average cash out payment is £200!
The downside to 20Cogs is that sometimes you have to pay for a trial, but the about you earn is always much more than you paid in. Another downside is that is can take up to 30 days for your task to be approved, so you will not get paid for this the same day. They are well known for paying out reliably though, and 20cogs is highly rated on Trustpilot if you want to see what other users are saying.
Teach English Online
Thanks to the internet, you can become an English teacher to students in China from the comfort of your own home! VIPKid is one of the most trusted companies to work with, and they pay up to £17 ($22) per hour.
The great thing about VIPKid is that you can choose exactly which hours you want to work, and there is no minimum number of hours. This is a great option for any mums who can only work in the evenings when little ones are asleep!
Start a Craft Business on Etsy
If you’re creative and like crafting, then an Etsy business might be just the business for you! You can set up your own shop page on Etsy in just a few minutes, take some pictures of your products, and you are ready to go. The beauty of selling your crafts on a platform like Etsy is that there is already a huge customer base ready and willing to buy- why not try it out?
Work from Home as a Virtual Assistant
Now that more and more businesses have an online presence, it has been come more accepted to hire virtual assistants to help small businesses with general admin, social media, and other tasks that can be done from home. You can either start your own Virtual Assistant business, or you can work as a freelancer for another Virtual Assistant company such as Time Etc. Time Etc hires virtual assistant from £11 per hour (this is negotiable later) and you can work during hours that suit you.
Start a Blog
This one takes a little more work than the rest of these options, but trust me, it’s worth it in the long run. I now have 3 blogs, and earn money from affiliate commissions, advertising, and sponsored posts. My blogs have even helped me get some of my freelance writing clients!
If you don’t already have a blog, I highly recommend Emma Drew’s course ‘Turn Your Dreams Into Money’ to walk you through getting everything set up and make sure you get started on the right foot. It’s one of the best value blogging courses around (I have taken it so I can personally recommend it) Emma earns 6 figures a year blogging, so she’s a great person to learn from!
Affiliate Marketing
Affiliate marketing can of course go hand in hand with blogging, but it doesn’t have to!
Affiliate marketing is when you promote someone else product in return for a commission from the sale. For recurring monthly commissions, talking about and recommending different software products you use is a great option!
Examples of affiliate programs with recurring monthly payments:
- Clickfunnels
- Mailerlite
- Bluehost
- ConvertKit
- Ninja Outreach
- Teachable
and hundreds more! It’s a good idea to promote services you have used yourself, so for example your email provider is a great place to start!
You can make money from promoting your affiliate products on your blog, as well as Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, YouTube, paid advertising, and more! There are loads of great courses available with all the info you need to get started.
