Before I had my first child, I had a steady but unfulfilling job working in sales in London. I didn’t actually live in London, and after becoming a mum, I couldn’t stand the thought of spending over two hours commuting every day PLUS eight hours at work. That would mean ten hours away from my baby every day if I went back to work full-time.
I knew there had to be a better way, so I started looking for remote work opportunities. And it was the best thing I ever did.
In this blog post, I’m sharing a few of the different ways I make money from home. Whether you’re seeking supplementary income or aiming for a full-fledged career from the comfort of your home, this post is your guide to making money from home.
I make Money From Home by Blogging
My journey into making money from home began with blogging. I was lucky bought that I had actually started my blag back in 2013 as a passion project, and after researching ways to make money online, I realised that I could actually be making money from my blog!
Through consistent efforts in creating valuable content, I started earning through advertisements, sponsored posts, and affiliate marketing. Blogging is undoubtedly one of the best Side Hustles if you live in the UK. Not only does it allow me to express myself, but it also provides a steady stream of passive income as my audience grows.
Freelance Writing
With a knack for words, I ventured into freelance writing. Platforms like Upwork and People Per Hour became my virtual workplace, connecting me with clients seeking my writing expertise.
I also found some great clients on the ProBlogger jobs board who I still work with today.
Whether it’s crafting articles, blog posts, or website content, freelance writing has allowed me to diversify my skills and create another stream of income.
The best thing about freelance writing is it pays quite well, and I can generally get paid quickly. This means if I have a holiday coming up or something I need some extra money for, I can simply take on a few extra projects that week and make more money.
Selling on Ebay
Oh eBay, how I love thee.
Having a clear-out turned into a profitable venture when I started selling items on eBay. From my old maternity clothing to textbooks and toys, eBay provided me the perfect platform to reach a broad audience.
This not only decluttered my space but also brought in extra cash. The thrill of finding a buyer for something I no longer needed turned my home into a mini e-commerce center.
Once I became comfortable selling my old items, I started sourcing antiques from household auctions to re-sell. This turned out to be extremely profitable; for example, I bought an old trumpet for £15 and sold it for £400! Not bad for an hour’s work!
Before the Christmas season, I also sourced products from wholesalers and sold them for a markup on eBay. Selling on eBay is a great way to make money from home, and I would 100% recommend it to anyone looking to make some quick cash or build a business they can run from home.
Online Surveys
In those moments when I have a bit of downtime, I turn to online surveys as a quick and easy way to make some extra money. Participating in surveys on platforms like Prolific Academic and Swagbucks allows me to earn rewards or cash by providing my opinions on various products and services. It might not be a substantial income, but every little bit adds up, and I usually have enough for a takeaway at the end of the month from doing this.
Final Thoughts
Making money from home has become more than just a side hustle for me—it’s a lifestyle. Blogging, freelance writing, selling on eBay, and participating in online surveys have collectively transformed my home into a dynamic space where creativity meets commerce.
The flexibility and freedom these endeavors provide have not only boosted my income but also allowed me to design a life that aligns with my passions and goals. If you’re considering making money from home, take the plunge and explore the multitude of opportunities waiting at your fingertips.
